Diversity, equity, and inclusion
During this last academic year ten emergency medicine faculty and residents demonstrated their commitment to diversity and inclusion by completing the UMMC Diversity and Inclusion Champion Professional Development Program, a six month educational program on topics related to diversity, inclusion, and equity. Congratulations to Drs. Denise Cornelius, Stephanie Depaepe, Sarah Sterling, David Vearrier, Laura Vearrier, Trey Wofford, Christopher McCuller, Ben Parva, Chet Shermer, and Brent Treadway for successfully completing this program.
The Emergency Medicine Department is committed to improving the health of all Mississippians. Faculty, residents, and staff have been working on ways to reduce health disparities both within the emergency department and in the local community. Recently, Dr. Erin Dehon, Dr. David Vearrier, and Jenna Davis NP obtained funding from the Environmental Protection Agency to assess and improve air quality at Early Child Head Start Centers in Mississippi.
